Heartbreak

I sit, watching, feeling helpless. The devastation. The hurt. The sadness, soon to be replaced by anger. They had nothing at the start and are left with even less. Digging out of the rubble with their bare hands. A mother who has lost all four children when her home collapsed and then the last one died at the hospital. I can't imagine it, yet, I see the horrors of it plain as day on my television screen.

I fall into puddles of tears each time I turn on the television. I want to help, but have no means. So, I write. That is my part. This is what I can do. I can raise awareness.

There are countless places to donate to in order to help the people of Haiti. Here are a few very reputable charities who are active in the relief efforts for Haiti. If you can donate, please do. If you can't, raise awareness.

So many tragedies in the world that are so devastatingly, achingly awful. This one is so deeply, deeply sad that I can hardly read or watch news about it. I count my blessings every day, more than once a day. Thanks for the links, great places to donate.
it breaks my heart as well. thanks for making it practical and doing your part. it can seem so helpless when we are so far away, but each little bit helps.
Amen sister! Brother Joseph is there with his Coast Guard peeps; they arrived two days ago. He said it is terrible. Looks like a war zone.
Fantastically said, I cant even watch that stuff...
It's the most tragic disaster I've seen in years...my heart aches
Hi Kat. I came here via Petra.

You're both doing a wonderful job by writing about this and raising awareness. I'm sure many people reading your posts will be moved to donate or do whatever they can.
Thank you for posting this. I wish I had the money to donate to them but like you I can't afford it.
I can't even look at the news right now. It's so devestating . . .
My heart hurts too just looking at all those people who had so little before the earthquake and now they not only have nothing materially but have lost entire families. The C-17's left CAFB this afternoon to go to Dover to pick up supplies and will be in Haiti before morning. the problem now is just getting the supplies to the people. Water Missions that is here in Charleston is sending ten water purification systems tomorrow. It is just a drop but it is a start. We sent our donation to the Red Cross because we knew it would be put to the best use. Another wonderful charity is Samaritan's Purse. This is the ministry of Franklin Graham and money donated is used in the way the giver designates.

We have to hold these people close to our hearts right now and pray that the world is watching and feeling their pain.

XOXO Granny
I agree, and I find it so hard to look at. It's strange because I feel that England is much more graphic with their news. In a way, I think we need to see these images to truly inform us, and in the other, it's so hard to face.
So awful. My heart goes out to all those families. And why does it have to happen to the people who can cope the least?
Yea...what you said....
