The Aftermath

My husband's birthday was a complete bust. Quite fitting that the stock market would crash the same day and the "bailout" would also fail that day. Lets just remember just like birthdays this failure of the market gives us a fresh canvas to work with. While our congressmen go off on their vacation (didn't they just have a vacation?) it gives the American people time to explore different alternatives than throwing $700 billion at the problem. Remember, as Americans our congressmen are employed by us. If they don't do their job they should be fired. This means if they can't fix this problem, we should not reelect them. I don't care what party they are. Ok I am about to go off on a tangent. Let me get my soapbox ready.

The American people should not go into DEBT to fix our economy. When our government buys BAD LOANS they become the peoples BAD DEBT. Giving the people who caused this problem $700 billion dollars to fix the problem when they couldn't handle the situation right the first time makes no sense. Do I want our economy to fail? No. Do I want stock brokers jumping out of windows on Wall Street? No. What I want is a common sense answer to the problem.

Now, in full disclosure, I listen to Dave Ramsey religiously. He is smart. He has been to bankruptcy and back. He knows what it is like to live on beans and rice. He never advocates going into debt for anything. He thinks this bailout is incredibly stupid. Which is what I thought before I even heard him speak on the subject.

Now his plan to jump start the economy and fix this problem makes a little more sense to me than just throwing $700 billion at the problem. His plan consists of a couple of things. First- remove the mark to market accounting rule. This accounting rule was instituted after Enron. Basically the government tried to legislate ethics and made running a publicly traded company a pain. Second extending insurance to these sub-prime mortgages. Then the people would only be on the hook for the mortgages that actually foreclose, not all the mortgages. He has also mentioned lifting the capital gains tax to let money more freely flow into the market. Here is a podcast that can explain it a little better than I can. There is also a transcript here.

Now I am not a financial genius, but I am mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore. If I can do anything to prevent this gigantic mess of a bailout from ever happening, I will. I have already called my Senator, which will do me little good because it is the Honorable Lindsay Graham of SC and he will not change his vote on this mess. He made this very clear on TV. But I tell you one thing. He will not get my vote this year. I don't care what party he represents. Way to go there Sen. Graham, you just lost a vote.

Happy Birthday to The Man

Today is "The Man's" birthday. I have been planning it for a couple of days and finally got everything pulled together this morning. Last night I pretended that I had completely forgotten that today was his birthday. Today I went to Wal-mart got the Bourne Trilogy as his present, got some kick bootay cards, and a cake (triple chocolate with chocolate gouache...mmmm *drools*). Now to assemble all in a pretty fashion before noon. Oh and I need to teach KiKi to say "Happy Birthday", which isn't going so well.

Me: KiKi say "Happy Birthday"
Her: NO!
Me: KiKi say "Happy Birthday"
Her (laughing): Nooooo

This whole surprising him thing wouldn't be so important if I hadn't forgot our anniversary this year. I am horrible about remembering dates. So this year I decided to go a little overboard for the birthday. Usually it is just a card and a "happy birthday" because we always get our presents early. Last year I got my kitchen table for my birthday, this year he got his new peddle for his guitar and an X-box360, so technically he isn't supposed to get a present.

We now interrupt this scheduled blog to tell you about how life came and took a gigantic shit on my plans....
The man called me around 10am and told me to hunt up our marriage license for an appointment we had here on base at 1pm. Guess what? I couldn't find our marriage license anywhere. After tearing our house apart for 2 hours we went to this appointment empty handed and I had to order a certified copy of my marriage license. $50. The Man's big birthday surprise, totally ruined. Our moods, completely ruined. Our day, shit on. We have spent the rest of the day re-doing our filing system and getting rid of unneeded paperwork. We have a huge pile that needs to be burned and or shredded. Isn't life grand?

PS-We made $170 at our yard sale. Then I promptly spent it on groceries.
PPS- One of the people in the Finance Office here on post has the last name Dickover. I think it is ironic.

Yard Sale Day Numero Uno

I woke up at 6:45 this morning for my yard sale that was supposed to be starting at 7. HaHa. Leave it to me to be late to my own yard sale. So I run to the shower, wash my hair with the quickness, throw some clothes on, start some coffee and hurry my ba-donka-donk outside. Yeah. My first customer didn't show up til 8. Go figure. At least it gave me time to drink my coffee, eat a pop tart, and get the yard sale stuff moved from the garage to the driveway.

We sold a good amount of stuff. Made over $100. Not bad for a Friday. Tomorrow we will have the hardcore yard salers (apparently blogger says that isn't a word) out. I hope some more of the girls toys get sold. I have also noticed that people don't buy baby clothes like they used to. Apparently even people who go to yard sales are too good for used baby clothes. Whateva.

In honor of the yardsale I am in protest not cooking tonight. This means that I get to go out to dinner in the town over. Woohoo. Ya'll have a good night.

Freak Outs and Yard Sales

Yesterday I got a little overwhelmed. Apparently the stress of an impending move, a yard sale, and hormones can make me a little batshit crazy. The plan my husband had for shipping the car to England was not making sense and was going to cost insanely too much money. $200 I can deal with, not $600. So anyways I had a panic attack*. I thought about finding a home for Sam, the cat. I called my husband at work, started crying on the phone.

Me: I am going to find a home for Sam.
Him: Are you sure you want to do that?
Me (bursting into tears): I guess I will If I have to!!
Him: Honey, we are not going to have to find a new home for Sam. We'll figure this out.

Man sometimes he knows just what to say to make me feel better. I was still freaking out though so I called my best friend (who you guys probably already know lives in England already). She further talked me back off the ledge. I guess I stayed on the phone with her for a little over an hour talking about this and that. She is as anxious as I am for my family to get over there. Her suggestion was for me and the kids to fly over there and live with her for a month and let my husband do this whole moving thing on his own. It was totally a joke of a suggestion and it made me feel a lot better. I guess it just made me laugh and get out of my funk because I know there is no way that I could leave The Man to deal with this all on his own.

When The Man finally got home we got down to work cleaning out the garage, mowing the lawn and getting ready for the yard sale that we are going to have on Friday and Saturday mornings. If you are in the area of BFE Missouri, please feel free to stop by. Please buy the swing set and crock pot. Oh and I will try to post on Friday (tomorrow), but if I don't, don't feel neglected**. I just don't know how much time I am going to have between the yard sale, LaLa's school and such.

* Chest tightening, can't breath, sitting in wing back chair praying KiKi doesn't need anything for the next 5 min because mommy is having a moment.

** Cause I know you guys live for every single one of my posts. Bwahahahaha. I crack myself up.

Mismash of Rambling Crap

Edit: The man got his orders today so we can now start some actual planning. Start praying for us now...lol. Plans to the man are sometimes a foreign concept. Is this just a male trait? His father is just like this. To get any kind of straight answer I always have to call his step-mom. Anyways rambling.

1. I am officially pissed off at the US government. 700 BILLION dollar bailout for the financial institutions? Are you kidding me? You can't pay your troops anything barely over minimum wage to defend the country, but you are willing to bail out corporations that made BAD lending decisions? Wait a dang minute! Where is the free market? You mean if I start a business and I make bad decisions that I can get a bail out too? No you would laugh at me and say sorry for ya. Which is what I would expect in a free market economy. Yeah sure a deep recession would hurt. However, so does tax dollars that we technically don't have in the budget covering idiot CEOs that didn't do their damn job.

2. Rental car companies. You guys can kiss my ass. $600 a month for a economy car for a month? I could buy a junker for $500 and sell the damn thing for scrap and come out ahead. I don't even know if I can get all my crap to the airport in a damn economy car. Lets see, 4 people, cat, dog, animal carriers, and suitcases, I don't know if that is gonna work.

3. People who cut orders for my husband. You guys need to get on the damn ball. We only have a month and a half until we leave. We can't get anything done until he gets orders in hand. Hurry up, we don't have til next year.

4. I have a mystery bruise on my arm. What the hell? It hurts. I have no idea what I did to get it either.

5. Stress. You are making my tummy hurt. I don't need an ulcer. Go Away. Thank goodness for having a blog as a soapbox. It does relax me some to get this off my chest.

Liquid Motivation

Ok we decided to have a damn yard sale. I hate yard sales, but we have so much stuff that is actually in good working order, that it would be irresponsible not to at least try to sell it off for a little extra cash. Yesterday I spent the day cleaning out LaLa and Kiki's bedrooms searching for toys that they no longer play with, clothes that no longer fit, and other things that are no longer in use. I think I found like 20 recieving blankets in KiKi's closet. Today I need to sort out my room, the kitchen, my candle closet (yes I have a whole closet of candles), and the utlility room. I am lacking motivation. Lucky for me I have the best motivator in the world. Coffee. Coffee with hazelnut creamer. Yum. A couple of cups of this and I will be zooming around here like I have jet engines strapped on my ass.

As for now I need to go email my mom some pictures I promised her yesterday. Hi Mom. Yes I know I said I would send them yesterday. I fell asleep at 9pm on the couch though. I was a little tired from organizing all this yard sale stuff. I am on it now I swear.

Weekend Wrap-Up

This weekend we finally got to the Renaissance Festival over in Kansas City. It was a blast. We always like doing things like this with the kids. It wears them out, they have fun, and we get out of our small town for the day. LaLa was amazed by all the characters in costume. KiKi was just happy to run around and play in the dirt whenever we stopped.
LaLa finally caught on that we were supposed to be in England while we were in the costume shop. "That's where we're going to live, in England" I hope she doesn't think England is like the festival or she might be really disappointed. We got LaLa an overpriced costume.

This is going to be her Halloween costume too. No sense in buying another one. I just have to find a few more little details to make her a pretty pretty princess. I think the costume was her favorite part of the day because when she would walk by people who were in costume, they would stop and say "G'day princess". She got a kick out of that.

Then we went to the jousting. Trying to explain to a 4 year old that it is pretend and that they are not really going to actually hurt one another is kinda hard.
There were also rides for the kids.

England Stuff

The house that I fell in love with in England has been rented. Dangit! I found a different house 2 days ago that I am even more in love with. Woohoo!! It is a 500 year old house with modern upgrades of course. No heating water over the fire for baths for me I say! I contacted the real estate agent in England today to inquire more about the house. She couldn't find the information for it, so I am waiting for her to call me back. I am trying to be patient. It isn't working. Could you be patient if you saw a house that you knew was perfect for you? Look at it, it is a thing of beauty.
I love that roof. Covered with moss. Big driveway with lots of parking. The part of the house that is off to the side on the right is a guest wing. It has a bedroom and an en suite bathroom. Look at the big window in the front. Beautiful.

Big Kitchen. I love the dark wood and exposed beams. Stainless steel appliances. Heaven.

Living room. Look at that big open fireplace. More exposed beams. Not loving the carpet, but see the rug, that is what rugs are for. Now call me back Ms. Real Estate Agent!!

Other things that are related to the move are that "the man" should have orders in hand next week. This clears us to do the rest of the stuff we need to do to move. We will be able to get our visas, schedule the movers, schedule the plane tickets, basically we will get to find out when exactly we are moving. Right now we are kind of living in limbo with the date of "mid-November" for our move date. I know we are going to have to live in TLF (temp lodging on base) for a week to 10 days. I hope it has wi-fi. If it doesn't I will be walking (because we won't have a car by that time) over to the main base hotel to their lobby for internet access.

Today my chore is to go through my cabinets and closets and find all things that are not going to England. I haven't decided if I am going to have a yard sale or just donate everything to charity. By the way does anyone know someone who needs a used washer and dryer? Ours isn't compatible over in England..and there isn't space in the houses across the pond for American appliances anyway.

Poor Thing!

If any of you guys have been following my twitter updates, you might have seen that we have another sicko in the house. Not that kind of sicko, you sicko. LaLa has been struck down with both bronchitis and croup. I didn't even know a person could get both of these cough-tastic illnesses at the same time. Needless to say we are not getting much sleep in the Kat household. They have her on two different breathing treatments that I have to alternate every 2 hours. One is straight saline the other is an albuterol type of medication to open up her airways. She is coping pretty well and taking her medicine when I tell her it is time. Poor thing, you can just see the sick in her eyes.
Then last night she fell asleep during her 8'oclock treatment.

My (not so secret anymore) Secret Obsessions

Scrubs- I am totally obsessed with the show scrubs. I think I have seen almost every episode (except the new ones cause I am not usually watching TV when they are on). When I heard it was in it's final season I wanted to cry. What am I going to do without JD, Elliot, Turk and Carla putting out funny new episodes? Well I'll probably just find a new show to watch, but that is besides the point. When Comedy Central started playing the reruns around the time that I am cooking dinner I was in heaven. You mean I can cook dinner by myself in the kitchen and watch Turk do "the dance" all at the same time?? Rock on. It's the little things ya'll.

Designer Handbags and Shoes- Even knock offs work. If for some reason I end up in the city at the mall and wander into a department store there are two places you will find me. The accessories section and the shoe department. Don't mind me if I am rubbing my face on a new Channel clutch, I am just giving it some love before I have to depart from it. I just wanted to try on the new Steve Madden heels...just to see what they would look like. High heels and a peep toe, I covet them. Plus handbags and shoes don't care if you gain 5 lbs.

Lipgloss- I think my husband will shoot me if I buy another tube of lipgloss. If he looked in my purse at the sheer amount of lipgloss I have on hand, it might be on. Tinted, clear, doesn't make a difference. I don't have a favorite, they are all my friend. Plus they keep my lips from getting chapped right? He should be thanking me....or something.

Cherry Coke Zero- Cherry coke flavor and no diet aftertaste? Rock on. I know I am probably rotting my guts from the inside out. It is probably putting a slow down on that whole dieting thing. You know what guys? I don't care. I want Cherry Coke with no calories. Is that too much to ask?

So there are some of my obsessions. Nothing groundbreaking.

Elizabeast

According to the American Kennel Club, Cocker Spaniels are intelligent, gentle dogs that thrive as part of a family. This especially true for Elizabeth if thrive means emotionally needy and needs to be petted constantly. We have had a her a little less than a year. We got her when my best friend moved to England and couldn't afford to bring her with her. I love this dog. She is great. She has never had a potty accident in my house, she gets along with my cat*, my kids love her, and she has a very cheery disposition. I really couldn't have asked for a better dog for my family. There is just one small, teeny tiny, itty bitty, little tiny problem. She needs constant attention from me, not anyone else, just me. She will try(very slickly) to push KiKi out of my lap to get petted. If she is running around outside when we are sitting out there, she will out of nowhere jump in my lap to be loved on. My neighbors think it is the funniest thing. I can usually deal with it as long as I am not doing anything important or holding anything that could spill.

There are times tho that her cuddle drive is completely out of control. When I am cuddling up to the hubby in bed and she tries to wedge herself between us. Not a good thing. When my kids need to be cuddled and she tries to slowly sneak onto my lap. I'm not having it. My husband seriously has gotten jealous of the dog before because of the amount of attention she gets. Then I have to remind him that the kind of attention she wants doesn't involve sex. And then I usually get some random Beavis quote**. KiKi has also learned the following words just because of my dog: quit, stop, no liz. These are usually used when I am sitting on the floor with KiKi in my lap and Lizabeast comes to collect some lovin.

We are moving to England in two months and we had to seriously think about the expense that it was going to cost our family to bring our pets. It is not cheap, roughly $1500 per pet (this is the vet visits, pet carrier, airfare, and possible quarantine). To me my pets are family. I have had Elizabeth a little less than a year and she has already carved a place in my heart that could never be repaired if I had to leave her. Sam Kitty, as much of a pain in the rear as he is has to come too. I have had him since he was 7 weeks old and there is just no way I could leave him now. So my family is going to shell out the thousands of dollars that it costs to transport these furry members of our family to the UK. Just one more hazzard of having a military family.

* She pretty much ignores him unless he is sleeping, then she goes and licks his ears til he gets pissed off.
** You can thank me for that later :)

Egad!

Monday morning already?? I am refusing to complain about this weekend. It rained all weekend and was generally gloomy, but I got a lot of things done. Laundry? Check. House clean? Check. Metallica tickets bought? Check!! I was extremely cheerful when the alarm clock went off at 7 am*. I got the kids dressed, waited for the hubby to get ready, got the kids fed, and started on our way to drop him off and get LaLa to preschool. So we get into the car and I go to adjust the rear view. It falls off. It flippin fell off guys! This is not how this day is supposed to start off. Now I have to make a trip to the auto supply store and then figure out how to reapply this thing**.

I did get some cute snapshots of KiKi this morning though. She isn't the most cooperative subject ever.

Mom do we really have to take pictures again?

I'll humor you, just one though.

Mom this concrete is kinda cold on my butt.

I am so done, Woman.

Let's go back inside.

* Those who know me know I am not a morning person. See post called 7:15.
** Because my husband is the most non-handy person on the planet.

The Evil Wal-Mart

No, I am not going to talk about the unfair wage practices and health care issues that Wally World has made famous. Frankly, eh, I don't really care about that. I hate Wal-Mart for other reasons. First of all let me say, it is the only large chain store in my small community. Shopping at other stores without a 45 min drive is impossible, so we are stuck with it. Now my problem is that I can't make it out of that place under $100.

Today I dropped LaLa off at preschool and headed off to Wally World for 2 items, wipes and a long sleeved dress for LaLa. Somehow I ended up with $138 dollars worth of stuff in my basket. I got 3 pairs of pants for KiKi, 3 pairs of jeans for LaLa, some cute graphic t-shirts and sweatshirts, a pair of pajamas for each of the girls, cherry coke zero, a pair of shoes for LaLa, and wipes (no good dresses were to be found). This happens to me every damn time I go in that place. Now, my kids did need pants so I can justify those. Shirts and PJs not so much.

I am putting a ban on myself from visiting Wal-Mart for at least 2 weeks. My pocketbook will thank me later. My shopping compulsion, well, it and I are going to have issues.

Sept. 11

Often you hear the question "Where were you on 9/11?" I remember my experience very vividly. I was in Russian Political Science class at the College of Charleston. My professor, Dr. Lu was in the middle of a lecture and a girl ran into the classroom and said "Turn on the T.V." then ran back out. Dr. Lu quickly went to the classroom T.V. and switched it on. It must have been NBC because I can hear Katie Couric's voice in my head describing the horrifying events that we were seeing on T.V. A couple of classmates got up and left the room. Most of us sat there with our mouth agape transfixed on the television set. The second plane hit the World Trade Center. I felt a tear go down the side of my face. Then my Professor said "This will be a turning point in history and politics. You may all go home or stay here and continue watching." I couldn't move. I continued to watch. The towers crumbled. People with looks of panic, fear, confusion. Reports of other planes hijacked. I finally decided it was time to go home. I walked a short distance to the parking garage in a state of shock. Once in the car I turned it onto talk radio. I continued to listen to the reports coming across the broadcast waves. There was a misreport about something at the State Department in Virgina. I drove home. Once home I sat in the living room glued to the T.V. again. My family members started to slowly trickle into the house. It stayed dead silent. Shock. It took us days to process.

Today I remember the moment our country lost not only 2,975 victims of the attack and their families, but also the loss of the feeling of security. I never felt afriad as American in my life before this moment. We were America, nobody could hurt us. That moment changed this country forever. It tought us that we could be hurt, we were not prepared, and that we were not as vigilant as we thought we were. In the years since it has happened I have also learned a few things about Americans. We are a generous people, we believe in this country, and we are all very greatful to be Americans despite our individual differences.

I think this picture is dying for a caption. I would do a contest but alas I am not one of those lucky bloggers who can give away giftcards. But I think this picture needs a name none the less. Oh this was taken with my new Nikon D40. I love, love, love it.

Sol-U-Mel

This is my handy dandy cleaner. Sol-U-Mel. It will get anything off of anything. Seriously.

Pen marks on the wall. See the raised textured area. See that big scribble.

Gone.

The stuff is a little pricey, around $10 for a little bottle. However, it is non-toxic*, all natural, and actually works.

*My kids could swallow the whole bottle and not get sick. This is important when you have a tot running a muck.

Dear Toddler

KiKi,
Due to the lack of sleep, new sleeping arrangements need to be made. Mommy can no longer live on 4 hours of sleep. Although it is nice to have a cute little monkey such as yourself asleep next to me, there is a serious lack of space in my bed. I know I created this problem last month when I allowed you to come into my bedroom in the middle of the night when your dad was working night shift. Now that your dad is home at night, the fit in the bed is a bit snug. Daddy and I, while we love you to death, do no appreciate you digging you little feet into our spines all night. Mommy can not sleep on 4 square inches of bed despite what you may think. Here are the new rules.
1.) You will take a bath promptly at 8pm.
2.) You will be asleep by no later than 8:30pm.
3.) If you wake up in the middle of the night, you will go back to your big girl princess bed.
4.) No matter what you are not coming to sleep in Mommy's bed.

In return, for following the rules, you will receive:
1.) Less crabby mommy.
2.) Praise.
3.) A sense of accomplishment.

In closing I would like to say, I wish you would stay my little girl forever. However, little girls need to sleep in their own beds.

Sincerely,
Mommy

PS- If you ever break open a ball point pen and "paint" on my (government issued) hardwood floors again, time out will be the least of your worries. You are lucky mommy knows about a miracle cleaner that would get the stink off a skunk.

7:15

7:15 is not a good time in the morning to receive a phone call. Just for the record. The next person who calls my house at 7:15am is responsible for their own actions. I will not be held to account. Here are the reasons that 7:15 is not an acceptable time to call.
1.) I am usually barely awake.
2.) Caffeine has not yet entered my system.
3.) I usually can't find the phone.
4.) I might cuss you out.

Here is roughly the conversation I had with this mornings 7:15 am caller.

Me: Hello *wiping sleep out of eyes half awake*
Caller: Hi this is Charlie from Charlies Appliance. The owner.
Me: Yeah, whaddaya need. (I know they are coming today)
Caller: Is 9 o'clock a good time for you?
Me: huh?? 9....yeahhh. Yeah that is good. *still confused*
Caller: We'll see ya at 9 then *click*

Now here is how the phone call was going in my brain:
*phone rings*
Me: Holy mother of God who is calling at this hour? Fuuuuuck. 7:15. Are you kidding me? Hello?
Caller: Hi this is Charlie...
Me: Do you know what time it is Charlie? It is 7:15 in the morning Charlie. Most stay at home moms are still sleeping. Are you crazy? You're lucky I had to get up anyway.
Caller: Sorry ma'am are you going to be home at 9am?
Me: Dude I talked to your guy on Saturday. Yes I am going to be home. *click*

Saturday MeMe

I don't normally post on Saturday, but I got tagged by Heather for a MeMe yesterday. Since my weekend plans are shot due to "the man" being laid up in bed, I figured what the heck. It is only 8:40 a.m., I am not quite awake and I am listening to Spongebob in the background so this post might take a little while. Here are the rules:

1. Link the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules on your blog.
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged blogger’s blogs letting them know they’ve been tagged.

1.) I generally don't get along with other women. It isn't that I don't have women friends, it is just harder for me to become close friends with girls because I know how catty they are. Men are so much easier to get along with because I can read them easier. I think this is because I grew up with a brother.

2.) I have one toenail that is half tan half white. It looks like a birthmark, but I have no idea what caused it. This is why I keep my toenails painted. My favorite shade of polish is OPI "I'm really not a Waitress" red.

3.) I don't like to cuddle. I am not a snuggler. When I am sleeping I don't like to be touched. This drives my husband batty cause he likes to cuddle, snuggle and crush me while I am sleeping. I really feel like I am being crushed. It is seriously hard for me to breath if anyone is touching me while I am trying to sleep.

4.) I have naturally curly hair, but a lot of people don't know that because I keep my hair straightened. If I don't straighten my hair, I throw it up in a ponytail. It takes me 2
0 min to straighten my hair in the morning, but it is soooo worth it.

5.) I might have Seasonal Affect Disorder, but I won't go get it diagnosed. During the winter I am extremely moody. Lack of sunlight is a bitch.

6.) I think my hometown is the most beautiful city in the world. London and Paris have nothing on Charleston, SC.

Lets see... now I have to tag some people. I tag Captain Dumbass, Middle Aged Woman, Dan, Slick, Honeywine and Jen.

This and That

O.K my kickass graduation present is supposed to be here today and I am soooo hyped. I can't wait to start taking some good pictures. I just checked the order tracking and it says "out for delivery" so I know it is coming today. I am so bouncing in my chair with excitement. It's the little things (such as a really nice camera...or chocolate) that make life worth it. ;)

Today was LaLa's 2nd day of 4 year old preschool and when we went to leave there was fog thicker than pea soup outside. Needless to say..no pictures. I am totally going to get some on Monday, promise! She is totally hyped about school this year. Today I asked what she did and she was bouncing off the walls talking about play-doh, singing, and coloring. I had talked to her teacher while I was there and she told me that LaLa raised a fit when she had to trace her name. See LaLa already knows how to spell her name and write it. She does get some letters backwards, but she is 4, and her name has 8 letters in it, so I figure she is doing pretty well. Now she just needs to learn how to write the alphabet in order and we'll be in business.

I got my final grades back yesterday. I got an 86 in Marketing and a 97 in Post 1945 History. Not bad at all Kat, not bad at all. I am patting myself on the back considering I was full of senioritis and didn't want to do ANY work at all. Actually, my Marketing grade would have been a lot higher if I hadn't said "Screw this" and turned in my exam before I had finished the whole thing. But honestly, I had a headache and was not in the mood. I knew I didn't even have to take the exam to pass the class and that is dangerous information in the hands of a non-motivated student.

Oh, "the man" is alright. He has an infection and is on antibiotics and should be back to full strength in a couple of days. Thankfully they did not leave anything up there when they did the colonoscopy as Lola suggested (I got a kick out of that comment). I don't know if we are going to do the Ren Fest as we had planned this weekend, cause I don't know if he can walk around all day. If we don't go this weekend we will go next weekend, which is fine.

Oh, we are also getting tickets to the Metallica concert that is coming to Kansas City in Oct. Kickass! Friend is babysitting, no curfew. Eh, but I have to be the designated driver...booooooo!

Yet Another Medical Emergency

My husband is having some medical problems. He is going to the Dr. this afternoon if I don't have to take him to the emergency room first. I have never seen him in this amount of pain unless you consider the time his ass was strapped to the toilet before the colonoscopy. Man, you guys are going to start thinking we are hypochondriacs or something. Really we aren't. This is the first time in the 6 years I have been married that we have had anything medical going on like this. My family is normally extremely healthy other than the occasional cough or runny nose. Actually it is kinda freakin me out with the amount of health problems we are having here lately.

1st day of Preschool

Today was LaLa's first day of school. You know those perfect days where you get the perfect going to school picture. Everyone is smiling, the kid is smiling with excitement and the weather is impeccable. Yeah, we didn't get that. Instead we got a morning where it was pouring down rain, LaLa was ticked because her father was late and the Jeep wasn't here to take her to school. She was totally freaking out because she thought she was going to miss her first day back to preschool. My husband pulled up into the driveway, we rushed to get into the car because I can't find my umbrellas*, and we hurried off to school without taking a single picture. What a fine way to start the school year. At least we were keepin' it real.

* The kids have stolen my umbrellas and only God knows where they are**.
** They have probably been broke and put in the trash.

Waiting

I really suck at waiting on things. Worse than a 2 year old really. I am currently waiting on all kinds of things and it is driving me nuts. I want them now! I sound like Veruca Salt. The first thing is my final grades. Not being able to see my grades is driving me nuts, just because I am a little bit of a control freak when it comes to school work. The tiny portion of my personality that is Type A definitely comes out when it comes to grades.

The next is waiting on my kick ass graduation present that my husband ordered for me. It will be here Friday at the latest. O.K so I needed a new camera. I just didn't know my husband knew that I wanted something a little more complex. Well I had sent strong hints, but sometimes he doesn't get those. The other day he called me over to his laptop and said "I wanted your approval before I order anything this pricey." What I saw was the most awesome graduation present ever. It is a Nikon D40. My first SLR camera. I am so excited. He knew that now that I am out of school I am going to need a good hobby to occupy my time. He is so thoughtful like that sometimes. Actually, I am glad he put some thought into this. If he hadn't I could have ended up with a new porn tape or some trashy lingerie. Cause that is how he rolls sometimes. Hit or miss.

The waiting game is also on for next weekend. We are going to take the girls to the Kansas City Renaissance Festival. It is going to be a ton of fun. We took LaLa last year and she had so much fun. This weekend the theme centers around fairies. This is totally up the girl's alley. Oh and I am going to have my new camera to try out.* I am getting excited just sitting here thinking about it. I need to get on their web site and do a little more research on ticket prices and discounts. We like to do fun things with the girls, but we always look into how to do more for less.**

With all this waiting I am going to have to find somethings to occupy my time. I guess I could read some blogs. LaLa starts school tomorrow too. I could go play an online game a friend suggested. I really just don't know what to do now that I don't have school.

* Hopefully I don't screw up the pictures too bad
