Ya Know...

I hope this post doesn't alienate any readers Conservative or Liberal. I just feel the need to get my feelings out on the subject. I respect all my readers views and am open to discussion. However, do not bash other readers or I will remove the comment (wow that is the first time I have even threatened that). I hope I never have to do that, I mean, we are all adults here.

I don't normally get political on my blog. Some of you know I am a conservative, others of you are new to the block, so let me just get it on out there, I'm a conservative. Lets get this straight though, I am not one of those gun toting, closed minded, my way or the highway conservatives. I for one have never had a gun, but I support your right (if you are an American in America) to own one. I listen to other sides of debates and I understand circumstance determine the right course of action, mine just might error on the side of a conservative solution.

I also don't hate Democrats. Some of my closest friends are Democrats. While I don't agree with their political philosophy, I don't judge them on the political party that they choose to support. How idiotic would that be. It would be like alienating half of the USA just because they like the color blue. What good does that do in the long run? I also don't hate Obama (I would have preferred McCain), I just hope he does the best job he can and I also recognize that he is walking into a gigantic mess when he takes the oath of office. I am also glad that I will be living in England for the next 4 years and can cover my eye and ears and *lalalalalalalalaala* ignore it from afar.

In the end, I think it is best for all Americans to get to know personalities before they start hurling politically charged questions at each other. It is kind of hard to have a proper conversation with a person of another point of view if the volume level is at 10, talking points are being spewed, and mutual respect is not shown. Of course you should stand up for your ideals, but also have the patience to listen to other arguments. You never know when you may be humbled by the insights of another or your point of view may reach another.

Kat-I think this is a great post and you hit the nail on the head in your last paragraph! Work gets VERY uncomfortable at times because people simply do no respect one another right to an opinion even. Anywho well done!
Love,
Your middle of the road but leaning more towards blue friend

Good post, Kat. I'm all over the field with my political views but mostly conservative. It's more important than ever to work together and dogma won't allow us to do that.

Honey, you could never alienate me! I love ya too much!

I work a guy that was a former aide to John Edwards and a guy that runs a conservative radio talk show in the AM....for fun! You're preaching to the choir, babe! Nothing gets me anymore.

I am guessing you may have run into a situation recently involving someone who was unwilling to turn the volume down from 10? Well-spoken Kat.

I root for the winner, regardless of political affiliation ;)

I think it's safe to say the leader of the free world is walking into a shit-storm right about now.

Very interesting post Kat!
I'm not gun toting (but my husband is) but I am fairly liberal. I respect all opinions just as long as you don't scream them at me so this we can agree upon!

Your post is EXCELLENT. Mum's not from the US but she was definitely behind that Mr Obama. However, she respects and would always take time to listen to someone's opposing point of view and would never let someone's political persuasion colour her view of that person (unless they were a pillock).

CONSERVATIVES SUCK! LIBERALS ARE SOCIALISTS! POLITICAL DISCUSSIONS NEED TO BE SHOUTING MATCHES OR ELSE NO ONE WINS!!!!

Nice post and I completely agree, but it makes way too much sense to ever go into effect. In a perfect world though...

Did I miss something? Was there a political argument somewhere in blogsville? If so, let me know so I can check it out!

Ahh, you already know I'm as liberal as they come, but I don't care what anyone else believes. As long as you're a cool person, it doesn't matter how conservative or liberal you are. There's no point in fighting over personal opinions.

As long as the ultra conservatives aren't running everthing in this country, I'm good ;)

Think you'll find most of us here a little less excitable with politics. Of course there are the avid followers but generally people here go to vote, dither over where to put their cross and then go to the pub!

I'm the one voting for whoever gives my kids the best education and gets all the litter in this filthy country cleaned up!

Yah....I think I am pretty middle of the road.....this Gaza/Middle East issue has had my blood boiling b/c I've either been called an Israeli-hater by conservative groups or else a Zionist supporter by more liberal factions, haha!......how can you be both at the same time?!!?

Give 'em hell, Kat....:-p

You made some good points Kat.

I'm behind whoever I think could get the job done properly. Unfortunately in Britain, I don't think any of them can - they're all gaseous reptiles.

Couldn't agree more sister! I am a conservative too. But, if your opinion differs from mine I am not gonna beat you down until you think like me. I will listen to your point of view with open ears.

Well put, well said, bravo. I echo all. So . . . what do you think about the recent banning of Ann Coulter (she's rolling out her new book) on NBC? Or will answering that cause our computers to blow up? Ruh-roh. Maybe I should change the subject. Umm, happy new year, dear.

Good post Kat. You guys should get really crazy and have more than two political parties. Harder to polarize when you have say five-ish like us.

You know I agree with you on this one...it's going to be interesting when he takes office and the fingers really start flying. And by that, I do not mean the middle one. :)
