Martha Stewart I am Not...

So it may come as a huge surprise to all of you guys, but I am NOT crafty. I think I failed Stay At Home Mom 101 when it came to this. We have not once made a macaroni necklace or beaded...well anything. The closest I come to crafty is setting out paints, markers and paper and saying "Go wild, girls!" And frankly since the hair incident, scissors are completely off limits. For some reason however I thought "Hey, lets do a gingerbread house this year!" Of course this thought came when I saw the kits at the commissary and realized I had all the ingredients to make the icing at the house already (I am thrifty like that).

Flash forward three weeks to Saturday. After putting it off as possible I finally succumbed to the siren song of the craft project. Well, more like LaLa nagged me until I had lost the will to live and gave in (she is gonna be a great wife one day). Realizing the kit only came with gumdrops, I threw LaLa into the car and ran up to the base for some other sweets to adhere to the house. We may have went a bit overboard...we had gumdrops, orange slices (the candy ones), pepermints, gummy bears, gummy worms and Mike and Ikes. Our house was going to be faaaaaaab-u-lous! At this point I was feeling confident in my gingerbread house abilities. I mean, I had made one in first grade...how hard could it be?

Besides the fact that the roof wanted to slide off and I got icing EVERYWHERE....

....not bad.

What a beauuuuutiful house! I'd move in. We made one last year and, by the time we'd covered it in ten tonnes of icing, the gingerbread started to dissolve ...the girls made me buy another one in early November this year but I'm hoping they've forgotten all about it ...
Looks fab to me and too good to eat. Are you going to eat it eventually?
You house looks yummy! I was hoping though for more horror stories? That's it? All went well and you enjoyed yourself? Did the girls? LOL!! I have to say, I have never tried to make one of these. Hmmmm! Maybe I should. I might be missing out on something here!!??
Hugs and Merry Christmas

Very artsy! Since its all melty looking, maybe you could call it your Salvador Dal(i) house! Get it? Har! :)
Hey that looks great!

I may have paid attention during the craft part of SAHM 101 but I must have fallen asleep for the baking lessons.
You can't say it's minimalist. It is great.

Did you have fun? Because that's how you pass the SAHM101 - crafts course.
Very baroque. And you get to eat it, right? So I don't think there's any failure involved.
That is clearly a built with love and enthusiasm house and really that's all that matters! Its' lovely!
Hey, it's the effort that counts and it'll be delicious! Mind you, I'd tell everyone to start at the roof before it slides completely off. ;-)
Oh, I'm impressed; those are much harder than they look.
Bet you all had fun!
My sentiments exactly! I have no patience to play with little things. So, I admire anyone who attempts these projects.
That looks fabulous! Is there an old hag of a witch inside waiting to cook the children who come to eat it?

Your blog is such a breath of fresh air, so delightful and joyous! A real source of inspiration, thank you for your many morsels of goodness.

If you have a moment or two, please amuse yourself with my new creation. I would greatly appreciate the brief moment of adoration and any suggestions.

Thank You.
That house is AMAZING.
It looks good enough to eat!
Looks perfect to me!! Should have gone for a two story and seen what that looked like! LMAO!
I loved finding those kits in Germany (I haven;t found any here.) I just let the kids go at it with graham crackers. Works just the same. Though my tastefully decorated (More minamalist looking) house - my son said it wasn't very creative! WAH!!
Like you, I am not crafty and like you I decided that we needed to make a gingerbread house. Our results were much the same.
What does one do with a completed gingerbread house? Eat it?
I would totally eat that house! And I could not be a stay at home mom because I definitely didn't take that course! We'd sit at home and watch tv all day!
Not bad, indeed!

We rocked out some pretty sad looking I don't know whats with some empty Pringles cans, some paint, glitter glue and a ribbon over the weekend. I don't even know what to call them. I guess I'll call them garbage in a couple weeks!
That's one delicious looking mess!
Im the same with you and the crafty stuff. But your house looks awesome. My little girl and I may have to do one this weekend now lol.
Not too shabby on the gingerbread house. At no point in time have I ever been called crafty. It's just wasn't passed in the genes from my mother to me. Happy RTT!
