RTT- Overview of the year

Since it is the end of the year, I thought it would be a good idea to take a look at what has happened in the world of the Bungalow in the last year. For other random head to Keely's place by clicking the purple button (it doesn't hurt...much).

randomtuesday

I just looked at my first post of this year and it was an open letter to perspective military wives. It was good for me to go back and read it. Sometimes even I need a reminder.

KiKi will still take a pickle over sweets.

We still have absolutely crazy weather here in England. I think I have this opinion because the weather websites here are not nearly as detailed as in the states. I miss seeing weather maps in motion. It also can rain slush here. That is just weird.

I still miss oyster roasts.

I have now seen London more than once. I have seen Cambridge a number of times. I plan on seeing as much of the UK as I can before I leave. Where to next?

I have been to 3 castles this year!

I am STILL hating the laundry situation in this house.

I still can't relate to people who dread taking their kids to the grocery store. It really isn't that hard.

Remember when my cat broke my toilet?

I still laugh at pubs with funny names.

LaLa is still weird.

I still laugh at the fact my mom farted at Windsor Castle.

Mr.PunkRock (LaLa's teacher) is still completely awesome. I love it that he tells them "come on, you horrible lot!"

Crack is still whack.

We moved. I still love the new house. Although my prediction of not being able to hear the kids if they were in their rooms was COMPLETELY wrong.

hurmm I guess that is it for now. I guess we'll just have to see what the next year brings!

Just now I was looking at a map of England and the area I lived in (Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire) and thought about how close I was to so many great cities and didn't take advantage of seeing them. I saw London several times of course as well as Edinburgh and Glasgow, Nottingham, Oxford, Cambridge and Stratford- Upon- Avon. Peterborough and Milton Keynes were my shopping meccas. But I wish I had stopped in York on the train ride to Edinburgh, gone to Manchester, Whitby, Newcastle, Liverpool, Cornwall and on and on. Time was an issue of course but mostly money. The exchange rate was as bad as it is now and I was paid in dollars (as you well know.)

I would suggest that if you haven't already, you must see Scotland. If you think England is beautiful, Scotland will take your breath away and the people are very friendly. If you can see only one city I would suggest Edinburgh and then take a day trip by bus to Loch Ness so you can see some of the Highlands along the way. You'll never forget it.
I would miss oyster roasts too! Just goes to show that Europeans don't have everything!
Smitten is right...Scotland is a must! If you can go during the summer, all the better as Edinburgh is just busting with great things to see and do. We spent two weeks in Scotland and saw alot of it and Stirling was perhaps my fave place to visit as were the Highlands. Such mystic beauty cannot be matched anywhere else, in my opinion. The only thing we didn't see, that I will go back to do is the Falkirk Wheel. Sad that we ran out of time.
You should visit York, the Lake District, the Kent coast (and castles, especially the one on the Dover cliffs as it also has WW2 tunnels), Wells-next-the-sea (East Anglian Coast, prettiest coastal town ever, they even have old fashioned beach huts), Whitby (just because of dracula). Nottingham is good for shopping but the castle is a disappointment (it's just a big house).

I can't think of any other places I'd take an American guest really... If you're into the Jane Austen movies then Stamford is worth a quick visit as that's where all of those are normally filmed.
I wish I couldn't hear my kids in their rooms. But I can.

You should try the coast of England. It's wet like everywhere else but I hear it's pretty.
Mmmmm....England! That's where I'm hoping Mr. HH will get stationed next. Why does the AF have all the cool places to live? Jealous.
Great year end roundup. I love the funny named pubs. The Spread Eagle is my favorite.
And you visited like three of the coolest people in Savannah...who are eagerly awaiting our Charleston beach get together!
I think the cat breaking the toilet was my first foray into the 3 Bedroom Bungalow :)

Can't wait to see what fun 2010 brings us!
2009 sounds like it was all too much fun hope 2010 is just as wonderful and a safe one for your hubby!
I like the way you combine RTT and the end of the year. Kind of reminds me of those Christmas cards you get from people telling you what has happened to them.

Thanks for your randomness,
Thanks for the recap. I'd missed the open letter somehow. As a military spouse myself, I think you did a wonderful job of summing things up. I wish I'd had that 12+ years ago to help prepare me for what was coming. Hope your new year brings many fond memories!
You should visit Scotland and post lots of pictures for me to drool over.
3 castles? Sounds pretty interesting.

Have a great Tuesday.

If you want more castles Kat you need to head up my way, we have 6 of them all within an hour of here along the Northumberland coast - as well as fantastic beaches.

Ive enjoyed your grumblings about our 'quirks' this year, I will do the same after our annual trip to Florida in August!

Happy New Year to you and your family Kat!
I'm a big fan of taking my boys grocery shopping with me. I practically beg them to come along now, though, because they think they have better things to do, but, aside from some of the teaching moments the trips can provide, I seriously need them to hunch down and get that last can of soup way in the back of the bottom shelf. My grocery store isn't always great about facing out product!
Lets see, in the last year, I have sat in the same recliner 365 times, typed on the same keyboard, 350 times, I have wished that I had a new career 365 times, ect ect! LOL!
Damn. You can still hear them? That means their gags are too loose.

I don't particularly LIKE taking the spawnlets to the grocery store, but it certainly isn't hard. They behave, I just prefer to do my shopping alone.
I hate taking the kids to the grocery store. LOL
Three castles in one year, so jealous.
Wouldn't it be grand to send laundry out?
Doesn't everyone fart in Windsor Castle
Did you marry a Limey military man?

Seriously, don't ever second guess being a military man's spouse. He has as good a job as there is, his retirement will be good, your children will get good educations and health care.
I didn't fart in Windsor Castle, I'll have to go back. And crash at your place, of course.
i've thought about that open letter you wrote more than once this year. It was well done.
