My Addiction

I have a confession to make. I have an addiction. It isn't one of those addictions that you can make a trip to "The Betty" (Betty Ford Clinic) for. I am addicted to books. I read constantly. When I go on a reading bender you might not hear from me for days or weeks even. Some weekends I won't leave the house because "OMGoodness I just got this new three book series and I have to read it now now now!" And I will read it. The entire series will be done by 9pm Sunday night.

When I get into a book, my husband knows that I will be unavailable. Well, I will cook dinner and attend to the children, but that is about it...and I will do it grudgingly. (DON'T YOU KNOW I AM JUST NOW GETTING TO THE SUB-PLOT!!!) Sometimes The Man even threatens to do the unthinkable to get me to do housework during a bender. He threatens to hide my book. When the last Harry Potter book came out, when I was pregnant with LaLa, I locked myself in my bedroom and only came out for bathroom breaks and to eat- once. I finished the book in 6 hours. Thank goodness cause I was getting hungry.

My addiction isn't even picky. I will read it all- mysteries, chick lit, trashy romance novels with half naked vikings on the cover, memoirs, suspense, science fiction, fantasy. It doesn't matter. I really haven't found a genre that I don't like. I have been on a vampire kick lately (and I really didn't like the Twilight books if you're wondering), but I am sure that will pass. I hear that this apparently is a "fad". I would also like to remind you of Anne Rice and Laurell K. Hamilton, who were writing "vampire books" well before Twilight and True Blood became all the rage. So maybe it won't pass.

I just know I love reading. I will always love reading. It is part of me. Even if my husband has put me on a physical book ban- "no books can come into the house until another book has left the house" or "use your Kindle that's what I bought it for". I will persevere in my quest for words and stories that move me. I might need a new book shelf soon though, it seems my current one is a bit full.

I'm the same, books are great and could take over my house if they joined together! We have piles of them everywhere!

We're the same in this house. We have had shelves put up in every spare wallspace. My hubby likes reading as much as me.

I love the sensation of being completely immersed that real life doesn't feel as real as the book.

I filled one massively large bookcase and purchased another and another and another and another. Now I have them all full and I have taken to stacking on the floor! Yikes! Speaking of addiction!!??!! Then add to this my husbands' love of books as well and we have a house made of books...ha!!!
In other words...I know how it is!! And reading is my all time favorite past time for sure!!
Enjoy!

OMG, total book addict here too. I got a Kindle for Christmas and it is like the ultimate crack pipe. I can get books delivered to me in 60 seconds without leaving the comfort of my chair! Do you know what this means??? Heaven. I can read book after book. It even has a built in dictionary in case I don't know a word. WOWZERS. I love this thing. Every book addict needs one.

Did you get this love for books from someone named Granny? My library card is one of the most used items in my possesion. Reading transports you to so many different worlds and wonderful situations. I pray that the good Lord always preserves my mind and ability to read.

What will I always buy for the girls?

Love to all.
XOXO

The love of reading is something that joins so many people together, even if the blogosphere. There's nothing better to teach your children.

A few years ago, I rediscovered my love of reading. Last year I read 64 or 65 books. I recently found a few reading challenge blogs. Look on my sidebar if you're interested in participating. My goal is 100 books this year! Oh! That's peanuts for you, I know, but when my kids were small, I'd be lucky to read 5 books a year!

Oh yeah! And I got a Kindle for Christmas last year and it's been wonderful!! Of course, I have a stack of 40 or 50 books in print still waiting to be read. I also download audio books from my library to my computer (for free!) and I transfer them to my Blackberry so I can listen to them in my car when I'm driving.

I have so many books piled up on my bedside table I can barely reach the lamp! Fortunately our school has a used book sale very soon so I am going to purge, although it will kill me.

At least it's a healthy addiction. Kinda.

I'm exactly the same way!
My boyfriend can't understand how I can pick up a book and finish it in an evening - even if I'm not enjoying it.

I just get so wrapped up in it!

I love then too...When everyone is gone I have been known to climb into bed for an entire weekend.

Happy New Year Kat! Funny coincidence I wrote a similar post today only about how much I love my Kindle. I am like you with reading, at times I even read 2 or more books at a time and the Hubster knows when I am not to be disturbed. I read the last Harry Potter and huge Dan Brown over a weekend, Hubster had to do the cooking!

I love books. I have been reading the Millenium Trilogy and haven't been able to put them down. I carry a tote bag so I can take them everywhere!

I love books, my hubby loves books, my Girl loves books... We've got a lot of books! My husband goes through one or two a week at least, so thankfully he's a library guy. Otherwise we'd be broke and (more) hurried in books!

As addictions go, reading books isn't too bad! We're similar here: shelves in every room full of books, lots of boxes if them too. I'm currently having a clear-out. I have to confess though: I've been on the same book since my wife was pregnant!

Good for you, amazing that you find the time. I've never been much of a book worm apart from on holiday. I wish I read more, maybe that'll be my new years resolution. I've read to my daughter everyday since she was 1 month old and now she loves books.....it's about time I read something that isn't just for 3 year olds!

I do understand this, I love to read and I had to laugh because I do love my Anita Blake Series, hubby knows that when the new book comes out and he brings it home, he just says.. bye, see you when you are done it..

Got to love having a man that understands the important things in life, which includes your book fix :)
