Annoyance

I can't blog about the move today because we are really in a holding pattern until after the weekend. Today we are just livin it up in TLF w00t w00t!!!! Ha! Yeah right this place sucks. Doing laundry rocks too!!! Bleh!

-Begin Rant-
But that is not what I am going to blog about. Okay I don't know what kind of music you guys listen to, but my dial is usally set to the rock station here in Kansas City. Sometimes I switch it over to the pop mix station or the classic rock station, even country sometimes, but mainly it is the rock station. What I have noticed lately though is a disturbing lack of creativity. For instance, Kid Rock completely has bastardized one of the greatest southern rock songs of all time.

Then there is the band Disturbed who apparently have found a formula and are going to stick to it until thier 15 minutes are up. Short staccatto words with palm muted guitar licks and then a couple of seconds of soaring dramatic lyrics. I am sure it is just because "that is the way that guy sings" (according to my husband), but I can't help to notice all of their songs sound the same. Example #1
Example #2

Another band that is guilty of this is Nickleback. Example#3. No offense to anyone who likes Nickleback. I am just not a fan and I get the feeling of de ja vous every time I hear one of their songs.

A note to all bands. Please do something orignial. Have a sound, yes. Please also vary the music enough that you make so that I know I am hearing a different song. Take a lesson from Metallica, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, and the *gag* Eagles (my husband loves them, me not so much but they are a decent band), they all have destinctive sounds, but none of their songs could ever be mistaken for one another. Seriously, if I can't tell what song a band is about to play within 5 notes in, maybe it is a little to similar to another song they have written. Just sayin'

One of my favorite quotes about the latest rock bands is from Alice Cooper:

"You're angry, I get it. Now SING about it"

I hate those growly, snarly bands. I was horrified when I saw Jada Pinkett Smiths band a few years ago. She screams and growls into the microphone. It's terrifing!

I loved that Kid Rock song...and I hated myself for loving it so. I agree he totally bastardized it too, but it didn't stop me from singing really loud and off key...all summer long. :)
I also love the Eagles. Tell your husband he has excellent taste in music (and women!!)for me. Hubs is in the process of trying to find me tickets when they come to DFW.
Agree with you on every single other point.
I had a question though, can I come to England with you? BC I cannot listen to my children argue ONE MORE MINUTE this weekend. Argh!!!!

Oooh, I kinda like the cranky Kat! I like Kid Rock, but he destroyed that song, and I cringe every time I hear it. Nickelback I think is one of the most overrated bands of all time, and I like one Disturbed song.

My musical tastes are all over the map. I love alt rock the most, though.

Tell the hubby that I just downloaded Witchy Woman onto my iPod this afternoon. I've also got Hotel California, Life's Been Good and Lyin' Eyes on there. The Eagles had some incredible talent!

I NEVER listen to the radio, I depend on other people to clue me in about music.
I can't believe I'm admitting this, but I had no idea that song was by Kid Rock until I clicked on the link. How sad is that?
I think Nicklelback is way overrated, as I do 50 Cent and Sugarland (even though I will admit I love the song "Stay").
Eagles? Eh, they're okay.

Hear, hear! I can't listen to that Kid Rock song ANYMORE!!! Plus, he ruined "Werewolves of London" and that's NOT FORGIVABLE.

I think that's pretty much all of music. I especially hate the formulaic folksy-just-me type of thing. It's all so manufactured now.

You really need to get out of TLF soon.

I feel the exact same way about Nickelback. And to take it even further, I can't stand some of the lyrics that are so blatantly there just because they rhyme. It's like they think the listener won't notice. "How did our eyes get so red? Hm, what rhymes with red? Ned, thread, dead, said, head. Yeah, head! And what the hell is on Joey's head! We rock. And we cursed. We're edgy!" Whatever.

I caught my wife singing along to that Kid Rock song one day, and I was about ready to sign the divorce papers until she saw the look of hatred on my face and stopped singing.

You don't need to apologize to people who like Nickleback. They should be apologizing to the rest of us for encouraging that kind of awful noise pollution.

I know, so many songs sound exactly alike these days.

Music is becoming homogenised just like the shopping malls. Here in the UK, we still produce some ground-breaking, innovative, original music but it rarely charts due to preponderance of insipid, derivative, plastic, corporate pop.

Simon Cowell, you are the Devil.

I COULD NOT AGREE MORE. That Kid Rock monstrosity is embarassing. I HATE IT! The lyrics aren't even good! Quit stealing songs, people!

To all of those out there who loved it (like my IDK BFF JILL): you should be ashamed! But I'll love you anyways
